A Timer Cannot Prove AI-Assisted Work

You were in a standup. Claude Code finished the refactor. Cursor applied the follow-up. Git shows a clean commit at 12:41. Your timer shows lunch.

The client asks what you did. The honest answer is: an agent did a large share of the edits while you supervised, prompted, and reviewed. The timesheet has no place for that sentence.

The buyer gap

Hour and output are no longer the same thing, so a timer cannot prove the work.

A timer measures presence. AI-assisted work produces output that no longer maps cleanly to "I sat here with the clock running." You can bill for supervision, review, and direction. You still need evidence that the work happened, on which project, and when.

Traditional trackers miss the session. They do not read Claude Code transcripts, Cursor chats, Gemini CLI logs, or Codex rollouts. Those tools already write local logs. The gap is that nobody connects those logs to a project timeline you can show a client or a teammate.

Timers miss the agents

Start/stop assumes a human is the only actor. Parallel agents break that assumption.

You can have three sessions open across two repos while a human edits a third file. Evidence density on a timeline can show that. A single running timer cannot.

Teams that already abandoned heavy ticket ceremony feel this harder. The AI conversation is the record of diagnosis and fix. When the window closes, that record disappears unless something captured it.
